#10 Tiger Volleyball Blanks Schreiner in SCAC Action

Seguin, Texas – The 10th-ranked Tiger volleyball team scored a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Schreiner (TX) University on Thursday night.




Trinity won 25-16, 25-12, and 25-16 in the match, hitting .336 as a team and holding Schreiner under .100 overall.

The Tigers began the match by scoring seven of the first nine points, then turned a 9-5 lead into a blowout by rattling off seven unanswered points. Schreiner got as close as six points late in the set, but the Tigers scored the final three points to take the early lead.

After Trinity took the initial advantage, it was actually Schreiner that held a slight 8-7 lead early in the second set. Trinity answered by scoring 12 of the next 13 points to take a 19-9 lead to essentially seal the win.

Schreiner opened up the third set by scoring three of the first four points, then held a 6-3 advantage when Trinity took over. The Tigers scored eight straight points to go up 11-6, then later had a 6-0 run that put them in complete control at 21-11. The teams traded points down the stretch, but Trinity's lead was too much to overcome.



The Tigers improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in SCAC play this season, while Schreiner is now 3-11 and 0-5 in conference.

Annie Rose Leggett paced the Tigers with 10 digs, adding 11 kills for her seventh double-double of the season.

Avery Tuggle led Trinity with 13 kills to go along with a .417 hitting percentage and six digs.

Katrina Lieberman finished with 16 assists in just two sets, while Marisa Amarino also reached double figures with 12 assists in two sets played.

Amarino had two aces to lead all Tiger players, while Emily Ellis had two blocks to lead the way.



Trinity will open up the second SCAC Divisional of the season by facing off against Centenary (LA) College and Colorado College on Saturday, October 5, in Kerrville, Texas.
