San Antonio - Trinity's Emily Ellis has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore middle blocker paced the 11th-ranked Tigers to a 2-1 record last week at the East to West Tournament at St. Louis, Missouri. Trinity defeated sixth-ranked Juniata (PA) College and California Lutheran University, while coming up just short in a 3-2 loss to tournament host Washington (MO) University.
An All-Tournament Team selection, Ellis tied her career-best performance with seven blocks, 14 kills, and a .458 hitting percentage against Juniata. She then posted a career-high eight blocked shots to go along with seven kills in the matchup with California Lutheran. Ellis wrapped up the event with 11 kills and five blocks against Washington-St Louis, and hit .318.
Ellis finished the weekend with 20 blocks and 32 kills, and hit .359 over the three matches. This season, Ellis has chalked up 45 blocks and 99 kills, along with a .346 hitting percentage.
The Tigers (8-3) head to Denver, Colorado, for the SCAC Conference Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday. Trinity meets Austin (TX) College and the University of St. Thomas (TX) Friday, and then takes on Texas Lutheran University and host Johnson & Wales (CO) University Saturday.
