#18 Women’s Tennis Falls to DI Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, Texas - The 18th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team opened its 2020 season with two losses Saturday to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, a member of NCAA Division I.



Playing under Division I rules, the Islanders won the opener 4-0, and took the second match 7-0.

Trinity stands at 0-2 while A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 4-0.

Only singles were played in the first match of the day, and A&M-Corpus Christi won all four in straight sets.

Zoe Kaffen and Ashley DeBauge played the first two matches, while Francesca Canjar and Pau Garcia had the third and fourth. Nicole Markiewicz and Natalie Hur represented the Tigers on the fifth and sixth lines.

Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen played #1 doubles in the second match and lost 3-6. The twin sisters won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Doubles Championship last September.

Garcia and Megan Flores played the second line of doubles. DeBauge and Hur were down 3-5 in the third match, which did not finish.

DeBauge has #1 singles honors in the second matchup and Flores played the second line. Markiewicz and Garcia switched positions, to third and fourth, respectively. Mary Kaffen and Hur also rotated on the fifth and sixth lines.



Trinity returns to action Saturday, February 8, with two home matches. First up is St. Edward's (TX) University, ranked 16th in Division II. The Tigers make their DIII debut later in the day with the University of St. Thomas (TX).
