No. 9 Women's Soccer Shutout UT-Dallas in 2-0 Win

SAN ANTONIO - No. 9 Trinity Women's Soccer scores two goals to blank the University of Texas-Dallas. Sophomore midfielder Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, TX / Robert Vela) and senior forward Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) scored a goal a piece in today's contest to help the Tigers improve to (5-0-1, 1-0-0 SCAC). UTD now falls to 2-3-0 after losing today's match. 

The Rundown

Campbell and senior midfielder Emma Everts (Parker, CO / Ponderosa) each took a shot in the ninth minute of the match but couldn't find the back of the net. The Tiger offense took three more shots before finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute of the match. Sophomore forward Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) made a run on the wing and crossed the ball to Campbell who scored her first goal of the season. 

Trinity continued to attack and maintain possession but couldn't score the goal to put the match away. UTD took their first shot of the day in the 35th minute but sophomore goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, TX / Creekview) made the save to keep the Comets off the board. 

Before the half ended, first-year forward Hanna Khan (Southlake, TX / Southlake Carroll) put two shots on frame but the UTD keeper saved them both. Sophomore midfielder Maya Ozymy (Dallas, TX / Coppell) also put a shot on frame late in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net. 

Throughout the first 27 minutes of the second half, the Tigers made multiple runs at the goal but came away empty. In the 74th minute, sophomore forward Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, NM / Bosque School) made a move to get into the box but was fouled as she took a shot in the penalty box. Schneider ultimately took the kick and put the ball on target but it was saved by the Comets keeper. 

UTD took their second and final shot of the day in the 86th minute but it was off frame. Less than a minute later, first-year midfielder Jordan Guy (Houston, TX / Xavier Educational Academy) and junior midfielder Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) found Sheridan for a goal to go up 2-0 with a few minutes left. 

Notable Numbers

Trinity took 33 shots on the day and managed to limit Texas-Dallas to just two shots with one being on goal. 

The Tigers also took eight corner kicks while holding the Comets to none. 

Khan led the Tigers with six total shots on the afternoon. 

Lewis earned the win in goal today and now has two shutout wins on the season. 

After today's performance, Sheridan leads the team in goals with four and Stafford leads the team with three assists.

The Tigers will resume conference play next weekend with matches against St. Thomas and Centenary.
