No. 16 Tigers Rally to Shutout Chapman at Home

SAN ANTONIO - The No. 16 Women's Soccer team shutout Chpman University in a 2-0 victory this afternoon. Junior midfielder Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) and senior forward Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) scored the Tigers two second half goals while sophomore goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, TX / Creekview) earned her second win of the season. 

Trinity improves to (2-0-1, 1-0-0 SCAC) after today's victory while Chapman falls to (2-3-0, 0-0-0 SCIAC). Lewis recorded two saves on the afternoon. The Tigers took 22 shots with seven of those being on frame while the Panthers only took nine shots with two of those being on goal. 

The Rundown

For the first eight minutes of the match, both teams struggled to get into their attacking zones. Chapman eventually settled for a shot that was off target. A few minutes later, sophomore forward Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) took a shot that was blocked by a Chapman defender. 

In the 14th minute of the match, Stafford took a shot that was off target. Bosco later took two more shots with the second being blocked to set up a corner kick. Sheridan put her head to the service ball but the shot was off frame. Chapman took a corner kick in the 24th minute but the Tigers defended it well. In the 26th minute, Bosco put a shot on frame that was saved by the keeper. 

The Panthers took two more shots before the half ended with the second one being saved by Lewis. On the last shot of the half, first-year midfielder Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, TX) had a great scoring opportunity but her shot was saved by the Chapman keeper. 

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, TX / Robert Vela) took the first shot of the second half but it was off target. The Panthers followed up with a shot of their own in the 51st minute. Shortly after, Chapman earned a corner kick but the Tigers defended it well. Stafford scored her first goal of the season in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 lead over Chapman. After assuring on the first goal, Sheridan scored a goal of her own a minute later to take a 2-0 lead with just under 20 minutes left. On the second goal, the Tigers took a corner and played it perfectly. Junior defender Josephine McCray (Fairway, KS / Shawnee Mission East) earned her first collegiate assist on the second goal. 

After taking a 2-0 lead, the Tigers took six more shots while limiting the Panthers to just two shots with only one being on frame. 

Notable Numbers 

Sheridan led the team with five total shots on the day. Two of her shots were on target. 

Bosco and Heath also recorded two shots on goal today. 

The Trinity defense has now recorded three shutouts on the young season.
