San Antonio - Three members of the 21st-ranked Trinity women's soccer team were elected to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) All-Tournament Team.
Senior defender Kristen Canepa, sophomore forward Kaity Ward, and first-year defender Bailey Meyer were honored for their performances at last weekend's SCAC Championship in Georgetown, Texas. The Tigers shut-out the University of Dallas (TX) 2-0 in the semifinals and tied host Southwestern (TX) University 0-0 in the final. The Pirates won the conference title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship by edging the Tigers 5-4 in a penaly kick shootout.
Canepa was earlier named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive time, as well as making the All-SCAC First Team. During the SCAC Tournament, Canepa fired in the Tigers first goal during the shootout phase with Southwestern, and she made two shots on the mark in each of the matchups.
Ward joined Canepa on the All-SCAC First Team. She scored a goal and chalked up an assist against Dallas, and accounted for four shots on goal in the title game with Southwestern.
Meyer was previously tabbed for the All-SCAC Second Team. Trinity's defense did not permit Dallas to take a shot, and allowed Southwestern just three shots on goal.
The Tigers received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Led by the SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year, Dylan Harrison, Trinity begins the NCAA event Saturday at Hardin-Simmons (TX) University in Abilene, Texas. The Tigers (15-3-1) meet Pacific Lutheran (WA) University (16-2-2) in the first round at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. The nineteenth-ranked host Hardin-Simmons (17-2-) plays Southwestern (16-4-1) at 3:30 p.m.
The winners advance to Sunday's second round at 3:00 p.m.
