San Antonio – The 21st-ranked Tiger women's soccer team finished off its regular season schedule with a 7-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference shutout win over Austin (TX) College on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Trinity wins the SCAC Regular Season Championship and will be the top seed at next weekend's SCAC Tournament.
The Tigers got started almost immediately with a pair of shots in the first minute. The first came from Camryn Beall and it was rocketed off the cross bar. The rebound came to Cassie Bowers, who deposited the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Kaity Ward crossed the ball into the box in the 17th minute, where Beall slipped the ball in past the keeper for a 3-0 Trinity lead.
On a corner from Nyah Shepherd with about 15 minutes left in the half, Kristen Canepa headed the ball towards the goal line, but it found teammate Molly Sheridan instead. Sheridan was able to turn and get off a shot that was saved off the goal line by an Austin defender. The rebound was picked up by Jessica Young and buried for the final score of the opening half.
The scoring spree did not continue until the 72nd minute. Rachel Hilliard drove into the box and found space for a shot, but her attempt banged off the post and fell to an Austin defender. Sheridan came in and took the ball away, immediately firing it into the net for a 5-0 Trinity lead.
In the 80th minute, Young found her way to a second goal as Austin failed to clear a cross off the foot of Shepherd. Young picked up the loose ball and buried it to make it a 6-0 game.
Just 24 seconds later, Bella Tablante slotted a pass into the box for Sheridan's second goal of the game. That would be the final scoring play of the afternoon.
Trinity held a clear 34-1 advantage in shots, including 14-0 shots on goal in the game.
The Tigers improved their overall record to 14-3 this season, as well as finishing undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 record.
Trinity has finished undefeated in SCAC games for 11 consecutive seasons, as well as winning 117 consecutive conference games.
Molly Sheridan and Jessica Young scored two goals each, while Sheridan also added an assist on Young's first goal. Sheridan and Young now stand at four goals each this season, tying four other players for third on the team. Sheridan is also tied for third with five assists on the year.
Camryn Beall extended her team lead with her ninth goal this year, as well as supplying her first assist of the campaign.
Cassie Bowers scored her first game-winning goal of the year, which was her fourth overall score this season.
Kaity Ward recorded her seventh assist of the season and is second among all Tiger players this year.
Nyah Shepherd, who leads the team with nine assists, scored her second goal of the year.
The Tigers will open up their part in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. Trinity is the top seed in the tournament and received one of two byes into the second round of play.
