San Antonio - The Trinity women's soccer team has stepped up in two national polls.
The Tigers are now ranked 17th in the latest D3soccer.com Top-25 Poll, moving up a notch from #18. The United Soccer Coaches Top-25 NCAA DIII Poll ranked Trinity as the #20 team in the nation, an improvement of two positions from the previous poll.
Led by Head Coach Dylan Harrison, the Tigers are sporting an 11-2 overall record and are atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings with a 5-0 mark. Trinity defeated Southwestern (TX) University 2-1 and blanked Texas Lutheran University 5-0 in two conference road games last weekend. The Tigers extended their winning streak to six games in the process.
Trinity averages 3.23 goals per game, while opponents have been limited to an average of .38 goals per matchup. Nine of the Tigers' 13 games have resulted in shutout victories for Trinity.
Sophomore midfielder Kaity Ward is the latest Tiger to be named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week. Ward scored a goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half of the Southwestern game, which turned out to be her first game-winner of the campaign. She is second on the squad with five goals and also has chalked up four assists for a team-leading 14 points.
Sophomore midfielder Camryn Beall leads the team with six goals, two of which have been game-winners. First-year defender Nyah Shepherd is tops on the Tigers with nine assists, while also contributing one goal. Junior goalkeeper Paige Wallace has an excellent .40 goals-against average and has made 23 saves this season.
Trinity opens weekend play Friday with a SCAC game in Denver, Colorado, with Johnson & Wales (CO) University. The Tigers head to Thousand Oaks, California, to take on California Lutheran University on Sunday in a non-conference pairing.
