Trinity Women's Soccer Beats Schreiner in SCAC Opener

San Antonio – The Tiger women's soccer team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action with a 4-0 over Schreiner (TX) University on Friday evening.

Trinity got the scoring started in the 13th minute of action, as Madison Horner scored the eventual game-winner on assists from Kaity Ward and Abby Blackwood.

Schreiner's only chance in the first half came in the 21st minute as the Mountaineers slipped past the Tiger defense. Trinity keeper Paige Wallace recorded the save to keep the visitors off the board.

Nyah Sheppard lofted a corner kick into the box in the 35th minute, and Kristen Canepa was able to redirect it into the net for a 2-0 Tiger lead.

That score held until halftime as Trinity out-shot Schreiner 13-1 in the first period.

Ward started the second-half scoring with a goal in the 63rd minute, converting a cross from Anna-Kate Coker to put the Tigers up 3-0.

Horner scored her second goal of the game in the 83rd minute, capitalizing on Bella Tablante's strong run into the box. Tablante crossed the ball in front of the goal after beating her defender, where Molly Sheridan touched it on to Horner for the goal.

That was the final score of the night and Trinity finished the game with a 26-1 advantage in shots, including an 18-1 edge in shots on goal.

Trinity improved its overall record to 7-2-0 overall with its fourth win in the last five games, while Schreiner fell to 4-6-2 on the season.

The Tigers also improved to 20-0-0 against the Mountaineers during the SCAC era (since 1991).
