San Antonio - The 17th-ranked Trinity women's soccer team shut out a scrappy Sul Ross State University (TX) squad 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers led 16-1 in total first-half shots, but the Lobos goalkeeper saved five Trinity shots on the mark.
Paige Wallace saved a shot on goal in the 22nd minute of action to prevent Sul Ross from taking the lead.
The second half also to be a battle, as Trinity tried to find the back of the net again. The Tigers led 13-5 in total shots in the second half with seven on target.
Trinity was awarded a corner kick and Camryn Beall fired in the second goal of the game in the 75th minute, as Shepherd picked up her second assist of the afternoon.
The Tigers led 29-6 in total shots, and 14-4 in shots on goal.
The Tigers (2-0-0) recorded their second straight shutout of the young season, while Sul Ross dropped to 0-2-0.
Nyah Shepherd, also a first-year Tiger, picked up two assists and leads the team with three in her column.
Junior goalkeeper Paige Wallace chalked up four saves and now has 32 in her career.
Trinity travels to Abilene, Texas, for a game next Saturday with 10th-ranked Hardin-Simmons (TX) University at 7:00 p.m. The game will be a rematch of last fall's NCAA Division III Second Round, which was won by the Cowgirls.
