Seguin, Texas – The Tiger softball team opened up a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with a Friday evening with a pair of losses against second-ranked Texas Lutheran University.
Trinity lost the opening game 8-0 as Texas Lutheran pitched a five-inning no-hitter. The Tigers lost the second game of the doubleheader 7-4.
The first game was scoreless for the first three innings, then the Bulldogs broke the game open with a base-clearing triple as part of a four-run inning. Texas Lutheran added four more runs in the fifth to enact the run-rule.
Following a walk to open the game, Trinity put a runner on third with one out but failed to get on the scoreboard. The Tigers had two runners in scoring position in the fourth, but left both runners on base.
Trinity's offense came to life in the second game, opening with Stephanie Crumrine's three-run homer that put the Tigers up 3-0. Trinity added another run in the second to make it 4-0.
Texas Lutheran cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the second, then pulled out in front with its third four-run inning of the day, putting the Bulldogs in front 6-4 after four innings. The home team added an insurance run in the bottom of the second.
The Tigers fell to 11-11 overall and 4-6 in SCAC play, while the Bulldogs improved to 21-1 and 6-0 in conference.
Stephanie Crumrine was 1-3 with three RBI and one run scored, hitting her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Allie Holbrook (5-5) allowed five earned runs on nine hits through six innings of game two, while Edwards (4-5) gave up just two earned runs on two hits over four innings in the finale. Both Tiger pitchers were saddled with the losses.
Trinity and Texas Lutheran will finish off the weekend series with a Saturday doubleheader that begins at noon.
