San Antonio - The 13th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team opened its home campaign in style with a 5-4 victory over Division II's 13th-ranked St. Edward's (TX) University on Friday evening.
The Tigers improved to 3-6 overall, handing St. Edward's its first loss of the season at 5-1.
Trinity opened with a 2-1 advantage after doubles. Christian Settles and Hao Nguyen won the second line 8-7, and improved to 4-0 on the season. Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma took the third match 8-3, and now stand at 3-1 as a team.
Krimbill lost the first line of singles as the match was even. Nguyen won in straight sets at #4 and upped his record to 3-2.
Settles increased the lead to 4-2 with a sixth-line victory. St. Edward's rallied as Pitts lost at #2 singles, but Akagi-Okuma had the honor of clinching the dual match with a three-set win on the fifth line.
Hamilton closed out the match with a tight three-set loss at #3 singles.
Trinity will host Division III opponent McMurry (TX) University at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
