#14 Men's Tennis Defeats #36 Southwestern on Senior Night


San Antonio - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team celebrated Senior Night with a 7-2 victory over #36 Southwestern (TX) University.


The Tigers nabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles when Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth took the #1 match by a 9-7 score.

Seniors Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess started the scoring with an 8-3 win at line two, but Southwestern temporarily tied it up win a line three win.

The Pirates drew even again by winning the first singles match of the night, but Mayer put Trinity back in front with his top-line victory.

Jordan Pitts then increased the lead with a straight-set win at #3 singles, and Liam Crawley clinched it with a 4-6, 6-2, 4-0 win at line four.  The match was decided when Southwestern's Dean Dulthummon had to retire.

McKenna Fujitana and Niess finished off the win by winning the final two singles matches.



Trinity improved its record to 12-10, while Southwestern dropped to 17-6.

The senior doubles team of Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess now stands at 13-4, and Jordan Pitts is sporting a 12-8 singles record.

Clark Rivers was presented the Jimmy Moses Award for the second time in his career. The award honors the late Jimmy Moses, a member of Trinity's first men's scholarship tennis team in the late 1950s.



Trinity closes out its regular-season home schedule Saturday, by hosting Colorado College at 10:00 a.m., and Austin (TX) College at 3:00 p.m.
