16th-Ranked Men's Tennis Defeated by #4 Middlebury

San Antonio - A rally by the 16th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team fell short as the Tigers lost 7-2 to #4 Middlebury (VT) College Wednesday.

The Tigers fell behind early after losing all three doubles matches to start Wednesday's action, ending with a 9-7 loss by Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth at line one.

Trinity was quickly down 4-0 after Middlebury took a win at #4 singles, but that's when the Tigers made their move.

Chas Mayer scored a victory at line one singles to get Trinity on the board, then Jordan Pitts secured a straight-set win at #3 singles to make it a 4-2 match.

Wilson Lambeth went to a third set at line two, but fell short with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss, which clinched the match for Middlebury.  The Panthers then won the final two matches to finish the evening.

The Tigers now have a 9-6 overall record, and are 8-4 against NCAA Division III opponents. The Panthers improved to 9-1.

Trinity hosts second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges at 3:00 p.m. Friday.
