#14 Tiger Men's Tennis Beats #20 Kenyon to Open Spring Break

Orlando, Florida - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team defeated #20 Kenyon (OH) College 5-4 at the sprawling USTA National Campus facility on Sunday.

The Tigers opened the match by capturing all three doubles contests by scores of 8-6 to take a 3-0 lead over the Lords.

Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth took the top line victory, followed by Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess at #2 doubles. Liam Crawley and Jordan Pitts rounded out the Tiger doubles teams.

Kenyon got on the board with a win to start singles play, but Crawley won #4 singles, and Fujitani clinched the match with a line five singles victory.

After Trinity had already secured the team victory, Kenyon won three more points in singles action.  Mayer and Pitts both lost three-set matches, as did Tilden Oliver, who was edged 10-8 in the third set at line six.

Trinity now stands at 5-5, and is 4-2 against NCAA Division III opponents.

The Tigers beat the Lords for the second straight time. Last month, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's National Indoor Team Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, Trinity claimed seventh place with a 6-3 victory over Kenyon.

Niess and Mayer are sporting a 5-0 record as a doubles team, Pitts and Crawley are 7-3, and Tyer and Lambeth have posted a 6-4 record.

The Tigers continue their Florida trip Tuesday in Orlando, by playing matches against 30th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (MA) (8:00 a.m. EDT) and Rensselaer Institute of Technology (NY) (3:00 p.m.)
