Tigers Defeat Schreiner 8-0 in SCAC Matchup

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Men's Soccer team extends its winning streak to six matches following the dominant 8-0 win over Schreiner University. The Tigers are now (7-3-2, 5-0-0 SCAC). Eight different Tigers scored a goal in today's match. Trinity took 34 shots compared to the seven shots the Mountaineers were able to get off. 

The Rundown

Senior Chen Adjei (Euless, TX / Trinity) took the first two shots of the afternoon but didn't put either shot on target. Sophomore Hunter Cain (Katy, TX / Cinco Ranch) put the Tigers on the board early with a goal following a pass from senior Fraser Burns (Dalry, Scotland / Garnock Academy). Schreiner took their first shot of the day in the 16th minute but it was too high. Just 18 minutes in, junior Jesus Veloz (Dallas, TX/Lone Star) assisted first-year Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, TX / Dripping Springs) to put the Tigers up 2-0. 

In the 24th minute, SU put a shot on frame but senior goalkeeper Juan Carlos Vidales (Laredo, TX / IMG Academy) stepped in front to make the save. The Tiger offense continued to attack and as a result, senior Jack Downes (Sheffield, England / Queen Ethelburgas) found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0. 

In the 36th minute of the match, sophomore Braden Shuey (Frisco, TX/Wakeland) scored his first career goal. Just a few moments later, the Tigers went up by five goals. First-year Rylee Hawes (San Antonio/John Marshall) earned his first career assist by finding senior Philip Duenez (San Antonio, TX / Stevens) for his first goal of the season. With just under a minute until the half, senior Connor Jones (Dallas, TX / JJ Pearce) added a goal t take a 6-0 lead into the break. 

First-year goalkeeper Henry Grad (Ascot, England/Millfield school) started the second half in goal for Trinity. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Hawes assisted senior Michael Somerville (Ft. Worth, Texas / Arlington Heights) to extend the Tiger lead to 7-0. Late in the match, the Tigers were fouled in the penalty box while attacking and earned a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the Tigers missed the pk butTrinity just moments later. Sophomore Tom Whitwell (Warwick, England, Repton School) scored the final goal of the match after junior Alan McGuire (Austin, TX/Anderson) found him in space.
