SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity Men's Soccer team picked up a 3-0 win in their last non-conference match before starting conference play. Senior Chen Adjei (Euless, TX / Trinity) was one goal shy of a hat trick, and senior Connor Jones (Dallas, TX / JJ Pearce) added another goal in the second half to ensure TU's second shutout victory of the season.
The Tigers possessed the ball for the majority of tonight's match. Trinity put nine of their 16 shots on frame while holding Concordia to 12, with one being on target. The Tornados took four corners on the night compared to Trinity's three. First-year Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) led the Tiger offense in shot attempts with four while Adjei led the Tigers in total points with four.
Adjei wasted no time finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The senior made a couple of moves and finessed the ball into the back of the net in the third minute to take an early lead. Adjei then added another goal on his second shot attempt of the night. Juniors Joseph Kuri (San Antonio, TX / TMI Episcopal) and Luke Newport (Austin, TX / Austin) teamed up to assist the second goal of the evening. Trinity eventually took a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Tornados started out of the second half with a shot that was blocked. The Tigers later went on a few runs and created enough room to take good shots but they were not able to find the back of the net.
Eventually, Knutson found Jones who scored his first goal of the season to extend the Tiger lead to three with just under five minutes left to play. During the last five minutes of play, the Tiger defense held the Tornados to no shots to preserve the shutout.
Trinity will be back at Paul McGinlay Field next weekend hosting Texas Lutheran and Southwestern in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches.
