Men's Soccer Edged by Mary Hardin-Baylor
SAN ANTONIO - The Men's Socer team fell tonight at the hands of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Tigers now have a record of 1-3-2 after taking an early 2-0 lead and on The Cru and surrendering three unanswered second-half goals. Senior Kyle Davis (Plano, TX / Liberty) scored the first goal of the match and senior Jack Downes (Sheffield, England / Queen Ethelburgas) scored in the 41st minute to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
10 of the Tigers 15 shots were on goal while The Cru managed to put six of their eight shots on target. Trinity also earned eight corners and held UMHB to just one.
Sophomore Hunter Cain (Katy, TX / Cinco Ranch) took the first shot of the evening and put it on target but the UMHB keeper saved it. Shortly after the Tigers took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Davis following a corner kick.
Both teams made a few good runs and put shots on frame but could not find the back of the net until Downes scored a goal to take a 2-0 lead on an assist from senior Chen Adjei (Euless, TX / Trinity). After the goal in the 41st minute, the Tigers were able to take a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the half while holding The Cru to just one shot on the night.
Trinity and Mary Hardin-Baylor each took one shot before UMHB found the back of the net in the 66th minute to cut the deficit in half. Later on in the match, a Mary Hardin-Baylor player received a red card so The Cru were down to just 10 men with just over 10 minutes left to play.
UMHB somehow gained momentum and scored two goals in a matter of 30 seconds to take a 3-2 lead with just nine minutes to go. Trinity fired away two more shots but was unable to come up with anything and ultimately lost to The Cru on the road despite leading 2-0 at the half.
Trinity will return home to take on Concordia University on Sunday at 7:00 PM.
