Tiger Men's Basketball Beaten by Whitworth

Spokane, Washington – Trinity's men's basketball team lost a 73-96 game at Whitworth (WA) University to close out the opening weekend of the 2019-20 season on Saturday night.

 

GAME SUMMARY

The Tigers took an early 5-4 lead in the game, but Whitworth used a 19-5 run to take control of the game with 11:03 left in the first half. Trinity got within 12 points a couple of minutes later, but eight unanswered points by Whitworth took the lead back to 20 with 8:27 remaining.

The Pirates also used a 15-3 run that pushed the lead to 19 points (54-25) late in the half, and the home team took a 54-31 advantage into the halftime locker room.

Trinity was unable to make a dent in the lead in the second half, with 23 points being the closest margin of the second half.

 

NOTABLES

Trinity begins the season with an 0-2 record, while Whitworth starts its year with a 2-0 mark.

David Nickell reached double figures for the second straight night, tying for the team lead with 11 points against the Pirates. He shot 5-10 from the field and also tied for the team lead with five rebounds.

Luke Stuart hit 3-4 three-pointers on his way to a career-high 11 points, reaching that figure in just 13 minutes off the bench.

Jalen White was the only other Trinity player in double figures, scoring 10 points on 3-6 field goals and 4-5 at the foul line.

AJ Clark was the Tiger leader with five assists, while Jack Williams tied for the team lead with five rebounds.

Ben Hanley chipped in with nine points and a pair of assists for Trinity.
