San Antonio – The second-ranked Trinity baseball team dropped a 9-5 decision in game three of its weekend series against sixth-ranked Babson (MA) College on Sunday afternoon.
After Babson opened the game with a run in the top of the first, the Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Beavers tied the game with a run in the second, then reclaimed the lead with another score in the third to make it a 3-2 game.
Trinity recorded three consecutive extra-base hits in the bottom of the fourth to score two runs and pull back ahead 4-3.
Babson tied the game with a two-out single in the eighth, but the Tigers put the leadoff man on second after a single and a steal in the bottom of the inning. Trinity stranded the runner, though, and the game remained tied.
Trinity retired the first two batters of the ninth, but Babson rallied with five runs on two hits, three walks, and three hit batters to take control of the game with a 9-4 lead.
The Tigers scratched out a run in the final frame, but the lead was too much to overcome.
Trinity fell to 8-2 on the season following its second straight loss, while Babson improved to 2-1 after winning the weekend series.
Wisniewski also hit his fourth double of the year and is second among Tiger players this season.
Brandon Hance (1-1) pitched 6.0 innings of relief with eight strikeouts, but was charged with the loss.
Trinity will travel to Abilene, Texas, to take on Hardin-Simmons (TX) University on Tuesday, March 3, at 5:00 p.m.
