Trinity’s Martin and Cater Elected to ABCA All-Region Teams

San Antonio - Trinity senior outfielder Jake Martin and sophomore pitcher Corey Cater have been elected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-West Region Teams.

Martin was tabbed for the All-Region Second Team, while Cater was a Third Team honoree. The two Tigers contributed to fourth-ranked Trinity's successful 35-12 season.

Earlier, Martin was selected for the All-West Region Second Team and was honored as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was second on Trinity's team with a .343 batting average and led the Tigers with 72 hits and 45 runs scored. Martin also posted a team high of 15 doubles and tied for the lead with seven home runs.

Cater joined Martin on the All-SCAC First Team. A right-handed pitcher, Cater led the Tigers with a 2.43 ERA over 74.0 innings on the mound and paced the team with 71 strikeouts. He chalked up a 7-3 record and posted a team-best five saves.

Led by 21st-year Head Coach Tim Scannell, Trinity won its 12th overall SCAC Championship after beating Texas Lutheran twice at the conference tournament at Cleburne, Texas. The Tigers also gained a share of the regular-season title with a 14-4 record.

Trinity advanced to its 12th NCAA Regional and headed to Seguin, Texas, for the double-elimination, four-team event. The top-seeded Tigers opened with #4 Franklin (IN) College and came up short 8-6. Trinity rallied from a deficit and defeated second-seeded host Texas Lutheran 10-7, before being eliminated by Franklin 6-3.
