#6 Tigers Open Schreiner Series With Thursday Night Victory

San Antonio – The sixth-ranked Tiger baseball team opened up a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a 6-3 win over Schreiner (TX) University on Thursday night.

Trinity took advantage of two errors in the bottom of the first inning that led to a 1-0 lead.

Three straight walks and a two-run single put Schreiner ahead 2-1 in the third inning, but the Tigers bounced back to tie the game on Rafe Chaumette's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.

Logan Morrison put Trinity in front for good with his two-RBI single in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game, but the Tigers left two runners in scoring position that might have put the game out of reach.

Schreiner rallied with a run in the eighth to close the lead to 4-3, but Jake Martin smashed a double to left field that scored two insurance runs for Trinity.

A leadoff hit and a walk in the ninth brought the tying run to the plate for Schreiner in the ninth, but Mark Tindall got the last two batters out to close out the Tiger victory.

Trinity improves to 28-9 and 12-4 in SCAC play with its fourth consecutive win, while Schreiner falls to 12-23 overall and 5-8 in conference.

Logan Morrison was one of just two Tiger players with more than one hit in the game, going 2-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Jake Martin also went 2-5 with two doubles and two RBI, increasing his team lead to 13 doubles this season.

Carter Fronk (2-0) pitched 6.0 strong innings in relief to earn the win, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out 10 batters.

Mark Tindall recorded the final two outs of the game with two runners on base to earn his third save of the year.

Trinity and Schreiner face off for game two of the series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
